| 18 Seder Meal followed by Soup, Bread, and Potluck Supper
• We begin our celebration of Holy Thursday and the Sacred Triduum by a communal meal, much like the Apostles did at the Last Supper. This year we will celebrate a Christian Seder Meal before the potluck, which commemorates the Passover, the feast Jesus and His Apostles celebrated at the Last Supper. Each part of this meal has significance for the people of Israel and for us as Christians. • While our parish is supplying the homemade soup, bread, and beverages, we ask that you bring a salad, side dish, or dessert to share. The meal will be served until 6:30 pm at which time the kitchen will close so that we can observe our communion fast and ready ourselves to take part in the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. Mass of the Lord's Supper (Holy Thursday)
• At dusk, the Triduum begins. For the Jews, a new day began at nightfall. Thus Friday begins with our celebration of this Mass. “Triduum” means “three days”. On these three days we celebrate the core of our faith: the Last Supper (Holy Thursday evening); Jesus’ salvific death (Good Friday); and His resurrection (Saturday evening and Sunday). • As instructed by the Roman Missal, the priest will wash the feet of 12 persons, symbolizing Jesus washing the feet of the Apostles at the Last Supper. Jesus gives the mandate to His Apostles to serve first, rather than to be served. • Oils blessed by Bishop Thomas at the Chrism Mass on Tuesday are presented at the beginning of Mass. • At the conclusion of Mass the Blessed Sacrament is transferred to the Atrium. Led by the servers and choir, all are invited to take part in the solemn procession; the Eucharist will be reposed in a specially prepared Chapel of Reposition in the Atrium. Adoration of the Eucharist
• Just as Jesus invited Peter, James, and John to pray with him on the night before his death in the Garden of Gethsemane, we keep watch and pray on this night. Make a visit with your family, friends, or on your own this night. We will be open until 11:00 pm. • After the Mass, the church is stripped and emptied as we prepare for Good Friday. | 19 Good Friday Services
• On this day of fast and abstinence we recall solemnly the Lord’s acceptance of the cross. We do so in the middle of the day—close to the hour when our Lord suffered and died. This day is unlike all others. The Passion from John’s Gospel is read, the Cross is venerated and although this is the only day in the year when Mass may not be celebrated—there is reception of Holy Communion which was reserved from the Mass on Thursday night. • The Cross remains in the church for prayer and devotion during the remainder of the afternoon and early evening.
