How Nice to Be Franciscan!

Dear Friends in Christ,

Yesterday I dropped in the mail invitations to forty Sylvania Franciscan sisters who have either been a teacher or principal at our parish schools over the past decades. I invited them to join us for the blessing and dedication of our new Franciscan Artwork and Franciscan Garden on Sunday, September 30. I also invited sisters on the leadership team—past or present—as well as sisters who grew up in our parish before entering the convent.

In total, well over one hundred sisters have ministered at our parish and antecedent parishes since 1917. Rossford was one the first communities chosen for service by this new Franciscan community at Sylvania which was founded as a province from the Sisters of Saint Francis in Rochester, Minnesota. I was delighted and a bit surprised to learn that forty of those sisters are still living. I am hopeful that many will be able to join us that day.

You, too, are welcome to come and celebrate all things Franciscan as we welcome the sisters to our 11 a.m. Mass. A program about the ceramic murals made by Sr. Jane Mary Sorosiak, OSF will begin at 1:30 p.m. The blessing and dedication of the artwork and garden will follow at 2:00 p.m. and end with a Ice Cream Social at 2:15 p.m. It will be a great day to celebrate our Franciscan Heritage and our Franciscan Values for today.

Pace bene (may you have peace and all well being!),

Fr. Kent
